Editorial Process of Diagnostic Test Accuracy reviews

The publication of Cochrane systematic reviews differs from that of print journals. Details of the editorial processes for systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy are provided in this document (DTA Editorial processes, PDF, 115 KB).

Cochrane Review Groups (CRGs) manage the process from the consideration of the proposal for a new DTA review through to publication including peer review. During this life cycle CRGs also support authors in use of RevMan software and some systematic review methods.

Title registration (registering a new Cochrane DTA systematic review).

Researchers wishing to register a Cochrane DTA review must contact the appropriate CRG. Please see our FAQ page.

The DTA Editorial Team suggest specific requirements (PDF 43KB) for the review author team and the content of the title for proposed DTA reviews.  CRGs are advised to undergo induction training before they start to register DTA reviews.

CRGs may contact their support units for advice about proposed systematic reviews of diagnostic test accuracy. Support units are keen to provide input at this early stage of the review process and encourage CRGs to get in touch.

CRGs may contact experts at the DTA support units for

  • Expert guidance on requests to register new DTA reviews
  • Title registrations forms for DTA reviews from their regional DTA support.

Peer review and publication of DTA protocols and reviews.

Both the Coordinating editor of the CRG and the DTA Editorial Team peer review all protocols and full text systematic reviews of Diagnostic Test Accuracy and both are required to agree protocols and reviews are suitable standard for publication. Full details can be found in this document (DTA Editorial processes, PDF, 115 KB). This flow chart describes how the CRG and DTA ET manage a Protocol or review through the peer review process (Flow Chart, PDF, 76KB.  Details about the DTA Editorial Team can be found here (DTA Editorial Team).
